The first ever Abortion Access Hackathon, created by N. California feminist clinic Women's Health Specialists and advocacy organization National Organization for Women, held last September, was an innovative approach to address online harassment. Online harassment grew from under 100 incidents to over 25,000 incidents. Anti-abortion picket lines have moved online. Developers, law students, designers, social media experts, reproductive justice activists, and reproductive health professionals worked together. Clinic defense group, The Clinic Vest Project and writer Katie Klabusich offered case studies in harassment. With four teams, (tech, legal, and two social media teams) we created innovative solutions at UC Davis for the one day event. We are excited to have inspired a larger iteration at GitHub with hundreds of participants, this March.

See It, Share It, Shut It Down

This social media campaign amplifies online harassment of abortion providers, and clinic volunteers. When a threatening post is made, @SeeItShareItShutItDown shares the post with the 'target's consent. Followers report the post, leading to its removal from social media sites.
